The use of timber construction is an effective method for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in new buildings and achieving global climate targets. However, increasing demand for cooling due to the urban heat island effect poses a major social challenge, as existing systems often are cost and energy intensive. Thus, there is a need for sustainable and cost-effective solutions to increase climate resilience in timber constructions. Prefabrication is an essential part of timber construction. HTK goes one step further and combines the load-bearing structure (CLT or rib panels) with building service components at the factory. This has the advantage of synergizing surface heating and cooling with the high quality of execution and prefabrication that timber construction offers, resulting in affordable construction and climate-friendly operation. In many cases, cooling in summer is the precondition for the operation of geothermal probes in winter. The combination of cross-laminated timber, soft wood fiber and clay plaster provides an environmentally friendly solution in production and has a positive effect on the indoor climate. HTK is being developed as part of the "Building(s) Tomorrow" initiative funded by austria wirtschaftsservice (aws). The aim of the one-year cross-industry research and development project is to develop the process all the way from planning and production to installation and disassembly. The project is a cooperation between Stora Enso Wood Production GmbH, einszueins architektur ZT GmbH and dhs Raumklimasysteme GmbH.
